Sociology is the scientific study of human behavior and interaction at the micro, group, organizational, and global levels.

What can you do with a Sociology degree?

Sociologists study how societies work and how people, institutions and groups behave, interact and influence one another within them. We use various empirical methods of investigation and critical analysis. Sociology is a broad discipline and sociologists study subjects like health, mental health, the economy, the military, education, the criminal justice system, race relations, gender, aging/gerontology, the family, social issues, demography, sexuality, social policy, global issues, etc.

The Sociology Department offers both graduate (M.A.) and undergraduate programs of study. Our online B.A. program is ranked number 3 in the nation for its affordability!

What can you do with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies?

Potential students asked that question all the time. However, the question should be - "what do you want to do with your Interdisciplinary Studies degree?" Along the path to degree completion you will have the opportunity to curate a degree that is unique to you. The degree can be used to customize your major to fit the needs of a current or future employer. If you have an interest in several areas but aren't looking to major in one subject, you can create a Concentration of classes from multiple disciplines that interests you. The potential career choices will be as diverse as the number of students in the program.

The program offers a flexible path to degree completion. Whether you are a first-time freshman, seasoned transfer student, or military affiliated student, an Interdisciplinary Studies degree will help you reach your goals.

The Department of Sociology and Interdisciplinary Studies at FSU is committed to educating students about the realities of human social interaction and offers students sociological tools to address current issues and problems encountered in social institutions and organizational settings. The department serves the needs of both traditional and nontraditional students by offering undergraduate and graduate programs, including minors and a general graduate certificate program that enhance students' intellectual growth and opportunities for career advancement. The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Sociology is accessible to students through distance-learning, on-campus, and military sites. Students also have the option of pursuing advanced study in sociology through our Master of Arts (M.A.) degree program. The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Interdisciplinary Studies is also accessible to on-campus, online, and military students
