The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Fayetteville State University is a vibrant collection of academic units, relevant to the twenty-first century and dedicated to empowering you through education to achievement of lifelong success.

We provide high-quality undergraduate academic programs in the arts, humanities, and social sciences, as well, as graduate programs in the social sciences, which are both attractive and accessible to a diverse student body. We prepare you for the challenges of the twenty-first century with competencies in critical thinking, communication, and global awareness.

Our Mission

The mission of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences is to provide educational programs and services that promote and support excellence in teaching and innovative scholarship in the arts, humanities, and social sciences.

Our 8 Programs

The College's eight academic programs and services are both attractive and accessible to a diverse student body, including first time freshmen, transfer students, adult learners, military-affiliated students, and international students. To facilitate degree attainment and life long success, the College enhances opportunities for students with diverse needs by offering professional academic advising and mentoring. The College provides guidance and accountability for its academic departments and support units as they seek to improve their academic programs through strategic planning and assessment, as well as specialized accreditation and program review.

How We Prepare You

The College encourages the integration of high-impact practices, such as capstone courses and experiences, service learning and internships into degree programs. Through effective leadership and support for teaching, scholarship and service among the faculty, the College prepares students with 21st Century Skills of critical thinking, logical reasoning, communication, global awareness, and proficiency in their academic discipline. The College produces graduates who will be leaders in their chosen profession and/or will be successful in graduate or professional schools. By creating an enabling environment to ensure effective teaching, active scholarship, and community service, the College fulfills the vision of Fayetteville State University to promote the educational, cultural, social, and economic well-being of citizens throughout North Carolina, the nation, and the world.
