According to Confucius, an influential Chinese philosopher, "Choose a job you love, and you will never work a day in your life." This is a quote that I have always kept in mind when choosing the right career path. I have always had a passion for helping people, since I was a child. Growing up in a household with a sibling suffering from substance abuse, not completely understanding why or how he got to that point in his life or how to help him, I knew right then being a social worker would be a meaningful profession. While in the Masters of Social Work program at Fayetteville State University, I have learned and developed the tools and skills needed to help vulnerable populations. Social work is one of many disciplines serving individuals and families, offering unique skills to serve various populations throughout the world. Many factors such as poverty, substance abuse, homelessness, abuse, and neglect drive families apart. Moreover, social workers tender a variety of tools to help individuals cope with everyday stresses. Our ability to counsel, educate, advocate, mediate, and act as a broker, enabler, and facilitator, adjoins the degree of services offered to people with substance abuse. These services can be offered at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels of social work. Each level of intervention is significant because they are centered on distinct levels of resources. I am so happy to be a student in the School of Social Work! Thank you FSU's School of Social Work!
