The N.C. Teaching Fellows program is designed to encourage students to pursue teaching careers in the high-need areas of science, mathematics and special education.

About the NC Teaching Fellows Program
The North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program is a competitive, merit-based forgivable loans for service program that provides up to $4,125 a semester ($8,250 a year) for up to four years to highly-qualified students committed to teaching special education or a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) field in a North Carolina public school.
Per G.S.116-209.62, the purpose of the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program is to recruit, prepare, and support students residing in or attending institutions of higher education located in North Carolina to become highly effective STEM or special education teachers in the State’s public schools.

Who is Eligible?
High school applicants or applicants with fewer than 24 hours of college credit must have a minimum unweighted high school GPA of 3.0. While not required, we strongly encourage applicants to submit an SAT and/or ACT score.
Applicants with more than 24 hours of college credit must have a minimum of a 2.7 cumulative GPA.
Students already enrolled in an Educator Preparation Program are not eligible to apply.
How to Apply?
Application to licensure preparation programs and application to be an NC Teaching Fellows are two separate processes.
The NC Teaching Fellows Commission reviews the NC Teaching Fellows applications, conducts interviews, and selects semi-finalists and finalists.
FSU is NOT involved in the NC Teaching Fellows application and selection process.
