Master of Arts in Teaching
Candidates in the Master of Art in Teaching Secondary Education Programs are trained to become professionals who are competent to meet the content knowledge needs of K-12 students. The program leads to an A level North Carolina license and is designed for those candidates who do not hold an initial teaching license in an area.

The Master of Art in Teaching is a program within the CAEP (Formerly NCATE) accredited College of Education and is approved by the North Carolina State Department of Public Instruction.

You will graduate from this program with the ability to be a knowledgeable, caring, and reflective practitioner. The program provides candidates with in-depth knowledge in K-12 and secondary
curriculum areas including methodology, stylistic approach, strategies, and research.
The Master of Arts in Teaching consists of hands-on experience that places you in a classroom as a student teacher to practice what you are learning.

M.A.T. Admission Requirements
Acceptance status is based on the following:
* Full Admission-GPA 2.7 and 24 hours of content courses and/or Licensure Test(s) Full Admission-GPA 2.7 and 24 hours of content courses and/or Licensure Test(s).
* Conditional Admit-applies to applicants who do not have 24-hours of content courses and/or Licensure Test(s) and/or a GPA between 2.4-2.69.
* Applicants with a GPA below 2.4 are not eligible for admittance.
Note: Conditional admit status can be removed the following semester if a 3.0 GPA is earned in at least 6 hours of graduate coursework and content requirements (24 content hours or Praxis II) are met.
Graduation Requirements
For the completion of a graduate degree program, candidates must pass the Praxis II in their content area and an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher is required for graduation.
