    BIOGRAPHY

My first college degree was a Cand. Oecon. (or Candidatus Oeconomices) degree from the University of Iceland in 1979. There are no equivalent degrees awarded by American Universities. This degree is considered equivalent to a Master's degree, albeit it combines the Master's level work with undergraduate work.
I received my Ph.D. in Economics from The Pennsylvania State University in 1986, where I also worked as an economics instructor through the Spring of 1987. My areas of specialization for my Ph.D. were Econometrics, Labor Economics, and Monetary Economics.
My first tenure-track position was as an Assistant Professor of Economics at University of Nebraska-Lincoln (1987-1992), but I also taught for a year as a visiting professor at my alma mater, the University of Iceland. I have been a faculty member at FSU since 1992, so I have now been here for over a quarter of a century.
As for my "real-world" experience, before finishing my Cand. Oecon Degree from the University of Iceland and heading to Penn State for my doctorate, I had worked in a variety of different jobs: in sales, in farm equipment repair, on fishing boats as a deckhand and cook, as a contractor and as an editor.

My academic work has appeared in a number of different academic journals, including the International Journal of Social Economics, the Atlantic Economic Journal, the American Journal of Economics and Sociology, the Eastern Economic Journal, International Advances in Economic Research, the Journal of Private Enterprise, the Journal of Economics, the Review of Social Economy, Humanomics, the Southern Economic Journal, the Journal of Cultural Science and the International Journal of English Linguistics. I have also published monograms as well as papers in various academic proceedings and as chapters in books. My research has been eclectic and ranged across different fields: for example, monetary theory, social economics, choice theory, behavioral economics, the history of economic thought and the economics of language.
