COVID-19 Testing

Through grant funding received from the partnership of UNC Board of Governors HSMI Committee and the N.C. Policy Collaboratory at UNC-Chapel Hill, FSU Cares (Covid19 Assessment, Research & Emerging Science) was established on campus. We provide free COVID-19 testing to the community and FSU. Testing is free and available for any individual over the age of 13. Those aged 13 to 17 years will need parental/guardian consent. The parent/guardian must also be present for testing. Contact an FSU CARES representative at (910) 672-2545 for more information.

COVID-19 Preparation and Response Training for Students

We are excited for the upcoming fall semester and want to provide students with important COVID-19 safety information prior to arriving on campus. FSU has developed the COVID-19 Preparation and Response Training for Students to educate our campus community about university safety protocols and personal practices implemented to reduce the transmission of COVID-19. An invitation link to access the training through Canvas was sent to students at their university email address. Please review your university email for the Canvas invitation link. Check your spam or junk mail folder if you have not received an email in your inbox.

Student Health Services FAQs

Q: How do I enroll or waive the school’s health insurance plan?
A: Students should access the Student Blue website www.studentbluenc.com/fsu for instructions on enrolling or waiving the health plan. Contact the clinic at (910) 672-2121 if you require further assistance.

Q: Will my Student Blue Health Insurance Plan work with providers not employed at FSU?
A: The providers must be in-network. The students should call the clinic at 672-1259 or the Student Blue Customer Service line at 1-888-351-8283 to identify the status of the proposed provider. You may also access the Student Blue website www.studentbluenc.com/fsu for information on providers. If you access an out-of-network provider, then out-of-network pricing will apply.

Q: Can I still use Student Blue after hours for emergency health concerns?
A:Yes. Your Student Blue Health insurance may be used for after-hours concerns or care. You may call the Student Blue Health Insurance After Hours Nurse Advice Line at 1-877-477-2424.

Q: I am a distance education student living off campus. Do I still need to turn in my medical records, immunizations and proof of health insurance?
A: No, students taking 4 credits or less on the main campus are not required to turn in their medical information or provide proof of health insurance.

Q: Do I have to report if I have COVID-19 if I am no longer on campus? How do I report?
A: Because COVID-19 is a reportable disease in North Carolina, all health care providers and labs are required to inform NCDHHS of testing for the virus so the appropriate public health response can be coordinated for a positive test. If you develop symptoms or have contact with a person known to have COVID-19, you should call to discuss this with your health care provider, FSU Student Health, or your local health department.

Q: Does Student Health perform COVID-19 testing?
A: Yes, Student Health will perform the testing. We will collect your specimen and ship to a commercial lab for analysis. The lab will report the results to the State Lab and to FSU.

Q: What should I do if I develop flu-like or COVID 19 like symptoms?
A: Contact Student Health Services at (910) 672-1259 in order to speak with a nurse and schedule an appointment.

Q: Can I get my prescriptions filled remotely?
A: The provider must evaluate you before he/she will write you a prescription. You may get your prescription filled at any local pharmacy.

Q: What medical documentation is required before I can move into the residence halls?
A: Residential students must provide Student Health Services with a medical history form, proof of immunizations to include the meningitis vaccine, complete physical, and proof of a health insurance plan.

Q: Can I volunteer in the clinic?
A: No, due to privacy laws. However, there are volunteer opportunities within the BRONCO Wellness. Please contact Dr. Johnson-Arnold at (910) 672-2081 or ljohns75@uncfsu.edu.
