Wanda Lessane Jenkins

Vice Chancellor of Legal, Audit, Risk and Compliance and General Counsel

Wanda began her career at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York as a business manager. Later, she assumed a similar position at North Carolina State University (NCSU). While at NCSU, she joined the Office of Legal Affairs as the Associate University Counsel. She served in that position until she became University Legal Counsel at Fayetteville State University. She briefly returned to NCSU before rejoining FSU as its lead attorney. Wanda received a B.B.A in Accounting, an M.B.A. and a J.D. from Howard University. She is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, the North Carolina Bar Association and the National Association of College and University Attorneys.


Benita “Angel” Powell

Angel joined Fayetteville State University in 2008. Prior to joining Fayetteville State, she worked as General Counsel for Health Care Connections, Inc. and Associate Attorney at Kilpatrick Stockton LLP. Angel received her B.A. degree from Duke University, her law degree from Washington University, and her M.P.H. degree from UNC Chapel Hill. Angel is a member in good standing of the North Carolina Bar. She is also a member of the North Carolina Bar Association and the National Association of College and University Attorneys. She is also the FSU Pre-Law Advisor for students and chair of the Pre-Law Advisory Board. Angel represents Fayetteville State on the Southern Association of Pre-Law Advisors, where she serves on the Board of Directors. She has also served as a board member of the Pre-Law Advisors National Conference. She is an attorney member of the NC Bar, Board of Paralegal Certification, and a current member the Cumberland County Bar Association where she formerly served as a member of their Board of Directors.

Joseph joined Fayetteville State University in November 2022. Prior to joining Fayetteville State, he worked as an Adult Protective Services Social Worker with Cumberland County, a Child Support Enforcement Agent with Chatham County, and a Probation and Parole Officer with the State of North Carolina. Joseph is a United States Marine Corps veteran. He received his B.S. in Criminal Justice from Fayetteville State University and his J.D. from NCCU School of Law.

Elizabeth “Beth” Hunt

Director of Compliance, Equity and Enterprise Risk Management

Beth joined Fayetteville State University in September 2021. Prior to joining Fayetteville State University, Beth served as the Chief Compliance Officer at UNC Health Southeastern, where her oversight responsibilities included compliance, ethics, privacy, code of conduct, policy management and auditing. Beth received her B.A. in Political Science from UNC Pembroke and her J.D. from UNC School of Law. She is a member of the NC Bar Association. Beth is a trained Internal Investigator, an Advanced Title IX Investigator and a certified Leadership Professional in Ethics and Compliance (LPEC).


Jeffery M. Womble

University Ombuds

Jeffery M. Womble is Fayetteville State University’s inaugural University Ombuds. His role is to serve as a confidential source to assist University faculty, staff, and students work through challenging workplace problems, dilemmas, and conflicts. Womble is a member of the International Ombuds Association (IOA), a professional group committed to supporting organizational ombuds worldwide. Womble earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Language and Literature from FSU and holds a certificate in digital communications from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is also a certified mediator through the North Carolina Office of State Human Resources.
