FSU’s employment unit provides consultation and talent management for SHRA , EHRA Faculty and Non-faculty positions. The Employment unit works closely with management to ensure that fair hiring practices are implemented, resulting in a diverse and well-qualified workforce at each level of employment within the university. We strive to be a business partner that is committed to hiring faculty and staff who wish to make a difference through higher education.
Employees holding positions that are not subject to the State Human Resource Act, including faculty, senior academic and administrative officers and employees referred to as "instructional & research" who engage in activities such as instruction, research, public service, academic support, student services, student health service physicians, institutional support and library. These positions are authorized and governed by the Code and the regulations in the UNC Policy Manual. Many EHRA employees hold positions that are exempt from the FLSA overtime provisions but not all. An EHRA employee may hold a position that is subject to FLSA.
SHRA positions are subject to the provisions of the State Personnel Act of North Carolina. The State Personnel Act establishes parameters for position classification, salary, and many personnel policies and programs.
A permanent appointment is a full-time or part-time appointment to an established SHRA position. The employee is expected to be retained on a continual basis. Permanent status must be given when:
- The requirements of the probationary period have been satisfied, or an employee in a trainee appointment has completed all training and experience requirements.
- Granting permanent status is contingent upon the employee's attendance at orientation, demonstrated satisfactory performance, and credentials verification.
