About the project

This interdisciplinary research team looks to examine and solve the current challenges presented to North Carolinians in terms of transportation and overall accesibility to key services. The team looks to address not only the daily navigation of traffic congestion, but also the management of autonomous transportation in hopes to imporve both North Carolinians quality of life and access to key services, such as healthcare.

Initially focusing primarily on Theme 1: Big Data in Transportation Management, the research team seeks to use big data from traffic apps, traffic videos, and other traffic sensory data to improve driving conditions. The goal for Theme 1 is to apply deep learning techniques using the data collected to provide traffic congestion predictions and to help improve traffic signal coordination.
