The Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with Teaching Licensure (K-12) provides students with the Spanish skills and the training and field experience to effectively educate students in Spanish as a second language.

The major in Spanish with Teacher Licensure is designed to develop students' advanced proficiency speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills. Students in the program also explore the history, literature, culture, and even films of the Spanish-speaking world to gain meaningful context for the language. Students will explore the different cultures of the Hispanic world and develop a greater appreciation for diversity.

UNC Language Exchange: In an effort to expand language offerings for our students, the Department of Communication, Languages and Cultures maintains an active partnership with the UNC Language Exchange.  Through The Language Exchange students may choose from a number of available language courses from any of the participating universities in the UNC System.  For a list of offerings, click here.

What Will You Learn?

This program offers the knowledge and tools to become a Spanish teacher for K-12 students. Students learn about current national and state standards of foreign language instruction, up-to-date methods and best practices for classroom success, and effective communication of foreign language knowledge in the classroom. This major also provides field teaching experiences and coaching from an experienced Spanish teacher to apply theory to real-world practice.

The BA in Spanish with Teaching Licensure (K-12) is the career pathway to the teaching of Spanish a second language in North Carolina, the nation, and the world.
