FSU Fast Facts

Learn how we serve military-connected students.

We offer:

  • A diverse community that welcomes many service members, veterans, ROTC cadets, and military families. Military-connected students comprise nearly 30% of FSU's student population, compared to 3-5% at peer institutions.
  • A proven roadmap for navigating military benefits and maximizing affordability. We make sure you get the help you need—and deserve. We enroll more GI Bill and Military Tuition Assistance students than any other four-year Historically Black College or University (HBCU).
  • A tried-and-true team of veterans who lead our military outreach and programs. We anticipate what you need because we've been there ourselves. Our FSU team includes veterans and former military leaders.
  • An array of academic supports and career resources, developed with your success in mind. We offer tutoring, mental health counseling, peer mentoring, career services, a Student Veterans' Center, programs at the FSU at Fort Liberty Learning Center, entrepreneurial development services, and more.
  • best for vets logoA top-ranked program, recognized by key influencers in the military community. FSU earned the #15 in the Southeast spot in Military Times'  2021 "Best for Vets: Colleges" ranking—the highest of any HBCU.

Our three-point action plan for how we serve students: Flexibility, Affordability, Value

Flexibility in action

Providing students with a civilian education that’s accessible and flexible is a big part of what we do. We offer extensive online learning options and an academic experience aligned with student needs—for recent high school graduates and adult learners alike.

Programs that meet your needs:

  • Flexible course options encompass online, evening, and concentrated (eight-week) classes.
  • Undergraduate programs feature 12 online degree completion programs.
  • Graduate programs include two online degree completion programs.

Active-duty members stationed at Fort Bragg can access programs through our Fort Bragg Campus, enabling them to learn right where they work and live.

Affordability in action

Making college affordable for you is important to us. A public university within the UNC System, FSU offers students low tuition rates and numerous scholarship options. We work hard to connect you with the help you need, providing competitive financial aid packages.

Ninety percent of FSU students receive some form of financial aid.

FSU also offers:

  • Free summer school for all enrolled students
  • Academic credit for prior military training/service, accelerating time to graduation
  • Free transcript review for transfer credits
  • Application fee waivers for active-duty military
Value in action

We know readiness matters. You know that, too. We want you to leave here ready, with a degree that starts working for you as soon as you leave our campus.

What's our bottom-line value proposition? A degree from FSU pays off, and quickly. Our degrees offer an exceptional return on students' educational investment. In fact, FSU graduates typically recoup the return on their investment at a much faster rate than students from other four-year HBCU institutions.

How's that for value in action? Learn more about FSU degree programs in our colleges, schools, and departments.

Meet the Team
