Fayetteville State University is here to facilitate your transition from the military to university life. We strive to provide accurate and timely information to help you navigate your Federal VA and the resources available to you on campus and within the community. The Student Veterans' Center also works to help educate the campus community to help ensure student veterans have a positive experience at FSU.
We help connect Service-members/Veterans and their families to the appropriate services on campus by providing the following:
- Information and resources to ease the transition from military-life to campus-life
- Provide an in-depth and unique orientation only for student veterans
- Connect students with the FSU Student Veterans' Organization
- A veterans' lounge to enjoy a beverage and to meet with other veterans
Information for Students Using GI Bill Benefits
Undergraduate Students Only:
Complete Declaration of Major form online. VA will only pay for courses that are required for your approved degree plan.
You must declare your major before taking 300 or 400 level classes.
Graduate Students Only:
Curriculum Guide (a list of courses are needed in order to fulfill the necessary requirements for a master/doctoral degree or teaching licensure program).
Once you have submitted all necessary paperwork to this office, it can take at least 60 days before the VA Regional Office will give you or this office any response as to when benefits will begin.
VETERAN ALERT: You must inform the VA Office of schedule, major, or address changes.
Yellow Ribbon Program - Department of Veteran Affairs
Fayetteville State University, in cooperation with the Veterans Affairs (VA) Administration,and Broadwell College of Business is proud to present the Yellow Ribbon Program to students with 100% eligibility under the Post-9/11 GI Bill®. This program allows institutions of higher learning in the United States to voluntarily enter into an agreement with U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate.
If you are a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program, eligible students may have up to 100% of their tuition covered.
Veterans in the Community (VACOM)
The School of Nursing at Fayetteville State University recently won Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) fund establishing the 3-year VACOM Project. Veterans in the Community (VACOM) is a collaborative partnership between veterans, the School of Nursing, and Community Partners.

Fayetteville State University Military Scholarship
The purpose of the military scholarship is to provide free tuition to Fayetteville State University (FSU) undergraduate students who are military-connected (active-duty military, veterans, spouses and dependents).
Fayetteville State University will provide a framework to facilitate communication and cooperation involving students with VA educational benefits or Tuition Assistance by DOD and/or will be required to use such benefits first to pay for tuition and fees. Any additional tuition remaining after the use of VA educational benefits or Tuition Assistance will be covered by the military tuition scholarships (up to $500 for in-state military connected undergraduate students, per semester and up to $2500 for out-of-state military connected undergraduate students, per semester). Fayetteville State University will offer military-connected scholarships each academic year beginning in Fall 2022.
To qualify for this scholarship, an individual must (1) be an active-duty service member, member of the National Guard/Reserves, veteran with an honorable discharge, or military spouse or dependent, (2) have a GPA of at least 2.5 from an accredited university or high school, (3) timely submit all application materials to FSU, and (4) meet all requirements for admissions to FSU.

- Use Form 22-1995 - If you have used your benefits at another institution, or if you have changed your program (degree or major)

2. Next, scroll down and click "Find your education benefit form".
3. Answer a series of questions to determine which form to complete.
4. Apply now.
5. Sign in to start an application.
6. Complete the application online.
2. Submit the form online to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Once you fill out the online form and submit it to the Department of Veteran Affairs, a confirmation page with a number will be provided. Forward the confirmation page to FSU Student Veterans Center (veterans@uncfsu.edu) and include your Banner ID and Benefit you plan to use. Keep a copy for yourself.
3. Registration (if you have not applied to Admissions do so now, click here.
Otherwise, Register for classes within your degree plan (use Degree Works) and contact your academic advisor.
A. Notify FSU VA certifying officials. Send an email to: veterans@uncfsu.edu with the following information: Name, phone number, Banner ID, Full Major, Gi Bill Benefit Used, and Certify me for (include semester).
B. FSU Certifying Officials will submit an enrollment certification (VA Form 22-1999) electronically to the Department of Veteran Affairs.
C. Dept. of Veteran Affairs receives and processes enrollment certification.
D. VA pays for courses that are relevant to your degree plan. (Student must pay tuition and fees to the University).
4. Verify enrollment on WAVE: You will need to verify your enrollment on the VA system in one of two ways:
Online: https://www.gibill.va.gov/wave/index.do (click on "WAVE") OR
By Phone: Call VA Verification phone line: (877) 823-2378.
NOTE: Your enrollment information will not post on WAVE until the certification has been processed by the VA. Verification will need to be completed on the first day of every month during the term to release the pay for the previous month. For more information on MGIB-Chapter 30, click here.

How do I apply if I already have a VA disability rating?
1. Sign into your eBenefit account
a. Click Apply.
b. In the Education and Training section, click Veteran Readiness and Employment Benefits.
c. In the Veteran Readiness and Employment Program section, click Apply for Chapter 31.
d. If eligible, you will receive an orientation session at your nearest VA regional office.
2. If approved, you will be assigned VR&E Counselor.
3. Authorization issued to school - VR&E Counselor will issue an authorization purchase order number to institution, authorizing student to register for courses and Fayetteville State University to post aid to the student's account in a given term or year.
4. Register for Classes - Register for your classes online through BANNER, use Degree Works, and contact your academic advisor.
5. Invoice Submitted - Fayetteville State University will submit an invoice to the Department of Veteran Affairs for payment.
6. Payment Issued to the School - Payment will be issued to Fayetteville State University from the Department of Veteran Affairs.
