Money Matters Program

The Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid at Fayetteville State University is committed to educating our students on financial literacy. We desire our students to make informed financial decisions from college to career. We have developed partnerships with campus departments and the community to ensure our students receive the information needed to understand Money Matters. Below you will find videos and a guide to what we offer with links to external resources.

On-Campus Resources

The Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid offers a variety of services to our students to help in making informed decisions. 

Financial Literacy Week: A week-long education initiative offered to current students and recent graduates with a strong focus on Financial Literacy component. Students attend workshops hosted by external agencies that focus on borrowing student loans, budgeting, credit counseling, and retirement savings. The week also features in-person loan exit counseling sessions for graduating seniors. This time is used to advise students of their rights and responsibilities in loan repayment and their options for the different repayment plans.

Outreach Events: While fostering a healthy relationship between departmental units, the Office of Financial Aid proudly serves the campus community by offering assistance and presentations during various department events. Some of the events include:

  • First Steps with the University
  • Financial Literacy Courses
  • Transfer Tuesdays
  • Fall Preview/Open House

One-on-One Counseling: Students are able to walk into the Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays between the hours of 1 PM - 4 PM to receive one-on-one counseling regarding student loans. Come in to see Ms. DeOndra Simmons at a time convenient for you!

Money Matters' Newsletter: Each quarter, a newsletter is published and distributed to the campus community with helpful information to assist students with making informed decisions. Topics include financial aid, budgeting, credit information, student loan repayment, scholarships etc.

Financial Awareness Counseling (www.studentloans.gov): Offered by the U.S. Department of Education, Financial Awareness Counseling provides tools and information to help you understand your financial aid and help you manage your finances. The counseling can be completed at any time.

Get Financially Fit with Nelnet: Nelnet provides students with information on how to develop healthy habits to secure their financial future.

Responsible Borrowing: Provides information on responsible borrowing, loan repayment, and carefully weighing the costs of college and potential income after graduation.
