Clubs & Organizations
The department promotes student engagement through meetings, events, mentoring activities, and student organizations. The current student organizations are:
Psi Chi
The department has an established chapter of the International Honor Society in Psychology, Psi Chi. This organization recognizes and promotes excellence in the science and the application of psychology. Its purpose is to encourage, stimulate, and maintain excellence in the scholarship of the individual members in all fields, particularly in psychology, and to advance the science of psychology. Students are inducted into society through academic merit. The chapter has been one of the highly active organizations in the university frequently holding activities that range from academic presentations, professional guest speakers, community service, to social events.
Psychology Club
The mission of the Fayetteville State University Psychology Club is to serve students interested in the field of psychology. The purpose of the club is to offer an avenue for educational and social networking opportunities to all psychology majors. Through the club, students in psychology have been making an impact on our campus, and the larger society, by engaging in community service activities, voluntary activities, research, and internships.
Active Minds
The Active Minds chapter at FSU is housed at the department of psychology and was established at the instigation of a graduate student and with the support of a behavioral service grant acquired by faculty in the department in 2014. The chapter continues with the mission of the national organization by promoting awareness about mental health on campus and encouraging help-seeking behaviors. It aims at removing the stigma that surrounds mental health issues and creates a comfortable environment for an open conversation about mental health issues. The chapter is open to all students, faculty, and staff.
