English Language & Literature Creative & Professional Writing Concentration (BA)
The BA in English with the Creative & Professional Writing concentration prepares students for a variety of careers.
If you are interested in a career in editing and publishing, this concentration is for you. Designed to develop creative and professional writing skills, this concentration will give you practice composing in multiple modes and media platforms including short fiction, novel writing, poetry, creative nonfiction, graphic novels, screen writing, and other hybrid forms. You will work on publication projects for informative, entertainment, and persuasive purposes, become familiar with publishing conventions, and be ready to pursue jobs in advertising, publishing, and marketing. You will also develop a writing portfolio useful for applying to graduate school or other writing careers.
The BA in Creative Writing will allow you to pursue and develop your craft and the art of writing through intensive writing workshops with the study of literature from a variety of genres, including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and folklore. This concentration will assist you in applying to MA and MFA programs in creative writing, to gaining employment in the publishing industry, and/or to submitting creative writing to publishers.
