Dr. Mariza James
Adjunct Assistant Professor
Dr. Mariza James is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department on Health, Physical and Secondary Education. Dr. James has been a higher education professional for more than 10 years. Dr. James’ research focuses on the health and wellness of African American college students from campus to career. She is particularly interested in campus retention efforts, including “first-year experiences,” mentoring and tutoring, and student development programming. She is also interested in how personal health knowledge and behaviors affect college success among traditionally underrepresented groups, human sexuality education, and campus wellness.
She earned her B.S. in Public Health Studies, M.A. in Health Education and Ed.D. in Educational Leadership with a focus in Higher Education Administration from East Carolina University.
