Students, Faculty and, Staff Share Ideas with Chancellor Allison During Series of Town Halls
Fayetteville State University (FSU) Chancellor Darrell Allison is a firm believer in shared governance. He exhibited that this week when he held town hall meetings with nearly 540 faculty, staff, and students, and one-on-one conferences with alumni, donors, and community leaders.
The listening and learning meetings, held via Zoom, were for the purpose of sharing ideas and getting input and feedback on the direction that these groups and individuals would like to see the university head. The meetings began Tuesday, March 17 with students and concluded March 19 with a conversation with faculty.
"I look forward to working with (Chancellor) Allison to ensure that he keeps the students' best interest at heart in his decisions," said Sydney Harris, president of the Student Government Association.
Allison met with members of the FSU staff on March 18, and faculty March 19. The collaboration with both groups centered on ways of enhancing the university, obtaining needed resources, and making the institution run more efficiently and effective.
"The Faculty Town Hall meeting gave dedicated faculty and deans the opportunity to share and discuss innovative ideas with Chancellor Allison that will move the university forward," said Nicole Lucas, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges liaison at FSU and faculty town hall moderator. "This type of engagement and dialogue will strengthen the educational experiences and outcomes for students, as well as galvanize FSU's commitment to academic excellence. Chancellor Allison is committed to continued discussions and dialogue and this is very encouraging."
As a part of his commitment to collaboration, Chancellor Allison told each stakeholder group that he will continue meeting with students, faculty, staff, and alumni throughout the year to learn more about their ideas on how to advance the great work happening at FSU.
