How do I apply for financial aid?

We know that applying for financial aid can be overwhelming, and confusing for some students and families. We are here to assist you with each step of the process.

In order to be eligible and receive a financial aid award that includes Federal grants, student loans, or work-study assistance, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For more information on applying for Federal student aid, go to studentaid.gov/.

If you need assistance completing the FAFSA application, you can contact us at finaid@uncfsu.edu, or call us at (910) 672-1325.

FAFSA Verification Process

Any student who submits a FAFSA application may be subject to a process called verification.& Verification is the process in which the institution reviews the information provided on the FAFSA application for accuracy. Approximately 30% of students are selected for verification by the U.S. Department of Education. If selected, you will be required to submit documents such as tax returns, W2s, and/or verification of non-filer letters.

All documents/information must be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid. Please choose one of the following methods to submit documentation:

  • E-mail: finaid@uncfsu.edu
  • Fax: (910) 672-1423
  • Mail: 1200 Murchison Road , Fayetteville, NC 28301
  • Drop off Box: Lily Building, 1st Floor

Please allow 7-10 business day for the verification process once all requested documents have been submitted to the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

Our Federal, Title IV, school code is 002928.

What are the types of financial aid available to me?

There are four main types of aid: grants, work-study, scholarships, and loans:

Grants

Grants, such as the Federal Pell Grant, Federal SEOG, and UNC Need Based Grant are free assistance that does not need to be repaid.

North Carolina Education Lottery Scholarship is free assistance that does not need to be repaid.

Work-study

Federal Work-Study provides you an opportunity to work and earn money for school. Students work no more than 15 hours per week and are paid every two weeks.

Scholarships

Students can apply for an array of scholarship opportunities through the university’s departments, the Office Scholarships & Financial Aid, and external agencies. Contact our Financial Aid office for additional information.

Loans

Loans, such as the Federal Stafford Loan, are low interest and need to be paid back after you complete school or cease to be enrolled at least half time (6 credit hours for an undergraduate student and 4.5 credit hours for a graduate student).

What is NC Promise?
