FSU Recognized as a 2020 WRN Ambassador of Excellence
Fayetteville State University (FSU) was among 77 agencies nationwide recognized by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) as “Weather Ready Nation (WRN) Ambassador of Excellence.” The honor recognizes a select number of WRN Ambassador organizations that have made significant contributions to building a Weather-Ready Nation. By serving as change agents and leaders in their communities, Ambassadors of Excellence have:
- Inspired others to take action and become ready, responsive, and resilient
- Created innovative ways to engage their community, their workforce, and/or their social network
- Formed unique collaborations with NOAA and/or other ambassador organizations to achieve goals they alone could not meet
- Embraced building “a Weather-Ready Nation for All” by addressing vulnerable populations’ needs.
In recognizing FSU, it was noted that the institution “is a fine example of what it means to be a Weather Ready Nation Ambassador of Excellence. FSU, which is one of 10 historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) that have completed the StormReady Recognition program, and is the only HBCU in North Carolina that is both StormReady recognized and a WRN Ambassador, takes hazardous weather and the safety of it students, staff, and community very seriously.”
