Date: February 16, 2022

8pm UPDATE:

Fayetteville State University to Resume Normal Campus Operations

Fayetteville State University will resume normal campus operations starting Thursday, February 17, 2022.

University police have given an all-clear update. Buildings are cleared and safe for the return of students, faculty, and staff.

Tonight's basketball game has been moved to Methodist University in the March F. Riddle Center.

Fayetteville State University received an unverified bomb threat today, law enforcement leaders confirmed. In accordance with campus policies and procedures, campus operations are suspended including classes, until further notice.  University employees and commuter students are asked to exit the campus in an orderly manner.  Residential students should shelter in place.

Fayetteville Police Department, Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, Fayetteville City/Cumberland County Emergency Management, as well as the FBI, SBI and NC Highway Patrol are working with FSU Police Department to ensure that all buildings are cleared and safe for the return of students, faculty and staff.

"I am deeply disturbed by the recent reports of senseless bomb threats directed at HBCUs across our nation and particularly at Fayetteville State University on today. Considering this threat, we acted quickly to ensure the health and safety of our university community. This university remains committed to our mission and vision of educating bright leaders all while making safety our first priority," Chancellor Darrell T. Allison.

University police closed all exits for entering the campus, except for the main exit on W.T. Brown drive and are conducting sweeps of buildings and grounds to find devices that may be in suspicious packages or hidden in trash receptacles, work areas, foliage, and other obscure places on campus. The rules of threat response are guided by when a threat is received. It is important to note that even after an all-clear is given, we must all remain diligent about our surroundings and activity or materials which may be out of place on campus.

Tonight's basketball game has been moved to Methodist University in the March F. Riddle Center.

Due to the continuing investigation, we are unable to provide additional details at this time.

Anyone with information regarding a threat to the university is urged to call campus police 910-672-1775 or call 1-800-CALL FBI or submit a tip to tips.fbi.gov. Information may also be shared via the FSU website.
