Early College
If you will graduate from a Cooperative Innovative High School or Early College High School in North Carolina and simultaneously earn an associate degree, you have the choice to apply as either a first-year student or a transfer student. Please carefully review the information below to make your decision.
Applying as a first-time student
If you choose to apply as a first-time student, your application will be evaluated comprehensively based on your high school courses and GPA, SAT/ACT scores*, and college transcript.
*As a member of the UNC System, Fayetteville State University will waive the standardized testing requirements for the 2021 application due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. However, submitting test scores, if available, can contribute to the holistic review of your application.
Applying as a transfer student
If you choose to apply as a transfer student, your application will be evaluated solely based on your college transcript. After you graduate from high school you will submit your final high school transcript, but it will not factor into your admission decision. You may have additional application requirements for your intended major program. We encourage you to contact your academic department to discuss your options. Please note, if you apply as a transfer student you will not be eligible for freshman-exclusive scholarships.
Regardless of how you choose to apply, you will be considered a first-time student upon enrollment. This is so that you will remain eligible for housing and other programs that are available to first-time freshmen. The number of transfer credits you have earned will determine your standing as a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior.

FSU is family-oriented. Going to an HBCU made me realize that people are really there for me. FSU is not too big and not too small. It’s a great school.
