Fayetteville State University appoints Bora as Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation

Ganesh Bora, Ph.D., is Fayetteville State University’s (FSU) associate vice chancellor for research and innovation, effective August 01, 2022.

Bora comes to FSU from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) where he served as the national program leader of data science and biological engineering at USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA).

“Fayetteville State is thrilled to welcome Dr. Bora to lead our research and innovation initiatives,” said Monica T. Leach, Ed.D., provost and senior vice chancellor for academic affairs. “Dr. Bora joins the team at an exciting time for FSU as we continue to expand the research enterprise at the university. We are confident his expertise will lead to an even greater number of grants and federal/state research opportunities for our faculty and will assist in enriching our students’ experience."

NIFA is the grant funding agency of the USDA where Bora led Urban, Indoor, and Emerging Agriculture; Regional Innovation and Climate Smart Agriculture for Future Farms; Farm of the Future; National Robotic Initiative (NRI); and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Institutes and Data Science for Food and Agricultural Systems (DSFAS) programs.

Bora represented the USDA at the Networking and Information Technology Research and Development (NITRD) committee of the National Science and Technology Council of The White House. Prior to that he served as a tenured faculty member at Mississippi State University and North Dakota State University. He collaborated on projects with nine countries in Asia, Europe and Africa.

“Dr. Bora brings a wealth of global expertise in state-of-the-art research methodologies and engineering innovation that will help move FSU’s burgeoning research enterprise forward,” said FSU Chancellor Darrell T. Allison. “Innovation and collaboration are deeply rooted in the culture of FSU, and we are delighted to welcome a scholar of Dr. Bora’s caliber to our campus to grow that enterprise and create even more opportunities for our faculty and students.”

Bora earned his Ph.D. in biological and agricultural engineering from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. He is active in professional pursuits and is an engineering program evaluator for the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET). He has been an active member of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) for 20 years and chaired the Executive Committee on Global Engagement. Bora is also a U.S. expert on smart farming and agricultural machinery in the International Standard Organization (ISO)
