How would participating in the Summer Bridge program help benefit me?

Summer bridge programs are designed to foster success during the transition to college and equip students with academic skills and resources while simultaneously offering opportunities to form meaningful social connections. Bridge participants showed greater retention, higher GPAs, and increased graduation rates than their non–bridge peers. Students will also have the opportunity to make friendships with other new Fayetteville State students before the academic year begins, as well as a network of faculty, staff, and peers in a supportive learning environment.

Will I have an opportunity to go home during the seven weeks?

Bronco Boost students are expected to stay on campus for the full seven weeks of the program with the exception of the weekend of the July 4th holiday. Students may be picked up from July 1st –4th. Classes will resume on July 5th. Failure to return by July 5th can result in dismissal of the program.

Note: Students are not required to leave during this holiday break. We will have a fun–filled holiday weekend planned for all students that plan to remain on campus.

Where will I reside?

Students live in secure, on campus housing accessed with a key card. Students will have keys to their rooms which are shared with one to three other same–gendered program participants. Students will live in Hadley Residential Hall near the center of campus.

We are proud to provide this experience at no cost to admitted students. This includes tuition, books, room and board, and all weekend activities. The enrollment fee for FSU is also waived for all Bronco Boost students.

Can I work or have other outside commitments during the Summer Bridge Program?

Summer Bridge is a significant commitment; the Summer Bridge Program schedule is very demanding from morning to evenings and requires students to dedicate themselves to managing their time for program events, meetings, and three courses. Students may not be absent for activities such as work, family vacations, etc. Please keep this in mind before deciding to apply for Summer Bridge. Students are expected to commit fully to Bronco Boost Summer Bridge during the seven–week program.

Do I still have to attend Orientation?

Summer Bridge students will still attend freshman orientation, a two–day experience that is required for all incoming first year student. Students will need to attend the orientation session that is scheduled for June 15–16, 2023. This is the Thursday and Friday before the start of the summer bridge program.

Can my parents/guardians spend the night in the Summer Bridge dorm in order to attend orientation or the opening ceremony?

We cannot permit this. Parents/guardians will need to handle their own lodging needs to attend orientation or the opening ceremony for Bronco Boost.

What happens after I have been admitted to Summer Bridge?

Participants will receive a “Welcome to Summer Bridge” information packet, which is usually mailed a few weeks after you receive your Summer Bridge admission letter. This will have detailed information about move–in day, attendance and dress policies, a tentative daily summer schedule, and most importantly, what you should (and should not) bring to Summer Bridge.
