Kerstin Hudgins

Nursing Skills Lab Manager/Instructor

In her role as Nursing Skills Lab Manager and Instructor of Fayetteville State University's School of Nursing, Kerstin Hudgins is a very diligent faculty member and highly committed to her profession.

As a nurse professional and educator, it is her focus to prepare, empower and assist the society of nurses and nursing students in the stride for professional excellence, encompassing improved patient outcomes and community support.

Her professional background is well-rounded. Since 2013, educating nurses has been by fortitude. As a prior clinical educator of a large health system, she developed and implemented a specialized nurse residency program. At Fayetteville State University, she uses her expertise to improve and expand the clinical curriculum. Her personal teaching style and research focuses on experiential and problem-based learning. As a 38-year maven in the field of nursing, she was fortunate enough to acquire knowledge, skill and continual education from a world-wide consortium. She enjoys writing and public speaking.

A native of Germany, Hudgins became a permanent resident in 1981 and spent many years as a dedicated military wife alongside her husband, a United States Army veteran. English is her second language, which provides her with a unique cultural edge when it comes to learning, integrating and working with people from different origins.

In time, her career path led her to acquire extensive training and brought her to student teaching and publishing. Once proficient in her field, precepting and teaching others was not just part of the job but became a joy. Through positive feedback and encouragement of the very ones that she taught to become an educator, and experiencing the obvious difference she made, led her to pursue an educational track at the post-graduate level and continuing doctoral studies. Combining her clinical expertise with academics, renders her as a proactive agent and meets her career goals.
